Authentic Hindi/Urdu Audio-Video Materials for Classroom use

Hindi and Urdu represent distinct speech registers, but are taught as one language in American universities at the beginning level. Within Hindi and Urdu there are multiple speech registers. The goal of this project is to collect language data distinctive of various speech registers for use as authentic audio material in classroom. The present project is extremely important because it will for the first time collect spoken language samples of Hindi and Urdu speech registers, and make the language data available to all the national centers teaching Hindi/Urdu.

The project will produce a 20 minute videotape for the purpose of introducing the American University system and aspects of language teaching in an American university context to instructors in languages who have recently arrived from abroad.

Intermediate Korean Reader, Part I

Development of a reader for second-year Korean with texts written and annotated by the project director.

An Intermediate Reader in Korean (Part II)

The project will produce the second part (Units 11-20) of an intermediate level (second-year) reader in Korean. The final text (Units 1-20) will include authentic materials and texts written for the textbook, along with exercises and glossary items. It will represent a full year's worth of materials for the intermediate level.
